"About 90% of grocery chains' logistics operations have been destroyed in Ukraine," said Vysotsky
Despite the fact that Russian troops have destroyed about 90% of the logistics infrastructure of grocery retail chains, Ukrainians will not be left without food. Supplies are planned to be reorganized using alternative routes and direct deliveries from producers to stores.
According to Vysotsky, Russian attacks have significantly damaged the logistics of grocery chains, but this does not pose a threat of famine or a systemic food shortage.
“As of today, roughly 90% of the grocery retail chains’ logistics infrastructure has been destroyed, but at the same time, this does not mean that Ukrainians will be left without food. There will be a shift to “on-the-go” logistics, so to speak, and other options for rapid delivery. In other words, there will be no threat of famine or a systemic physical shortage of food,” Vysotsky assured.
The minister noted that supply chains will have to be restructured, specifically by using direct routes from producers to retail chains.
At the same time, this logistics model is more expensive, more complex, and takes longer than deliveries through the usual distribution centers.
“The product selection—yes, it may suffer somewhat; we warned about this earlier. But there is no threat to the physical availability of at least basic food items in the stores closest to consumers,” the minister emphasized.
Thus, basic food items should remain available in nearby stores, although the selection of certain products may be reduced.
Over the past month, Russian troops have repeatedly struck the warehouses and distribution centers of grocery chains.
Facilities belonging to the companies “Fora,” Varus, “Silpo,” and NOVUS have come under attack. Russian troops used ballistic missiles and drones to carry out these strikes.
As a result, retail chains are having to quickly reorganize their logistics to supply stores with necessary goods even in the absence of a significant portion of their warehouse infrastructure.
Ukraine’s Minister of Agrarian Policy, Taras Vysotsky, made this statement during a conversation with journalists.
On the night of and morning of August 28, Russian troops attacked the Kyiv region. The Fastiv, Boryspil, Vyshhorod, Brovary, and Bucha districts were targeted, resulting in damage to 14 warehouses, 16 private homes, three apartment buildings, and 16 vehicles.
The Kyiv region suffered a massive attack: destruction, fires, and casualties.
Earlier, 11 high-rise buildings were damaged in the Poltava community due to morning shelling.
The Russians launched more than 50 drone attacks on the Chernihiv region over the past 24 hours.
Russian drones attacked a railway line in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
