Prices for vegetables used in borscht have fallen in Ukraine
Seasonal price drops for vegetables are continuing in Ukraine, which has affected the cost of the borscht mix. Over the past week, prices for potatoes, beets, carrots, and onions have fallen the most, while tomatoes, on the other hand, have become more expensive.
This was reported by analysts from the EastFruit project. According to their data, the wholesale price of potatoes fell to 10–15 UAH per kilogram, down from 12–15 UAH a week earlier. White cabbage dropped in price from 20–25 UAH to 18–25 UAH per kilogram.
The largest declines were recorded for beets and carrots. The price of beets fell from 14–18 UAH to 10–15 UAH per kilogram, and carrots from 28–30 UAH to 22–28 UAH. Onions have also become significantly cheaper—from 20–35 UAH to 16–20 UAH per kilogram.
Among other vegetables, cucumbers continue to get cheaper; they are currently sold wholesale for 15–30 UAH per kilogram, down from 25–40 UAH a week earlier. At the same time, tomatoes have risen in price to 40–75 UAH per kilogram, whereas their price was previously 30–60 UAH.
The price drop has also affected fruits and berries. Apples have fallen in price to 25–40 UAH per kilogram, pears to 40–50 UAH, and plums to 50–100 UAH. The wholesale price of blueberries has also dropped to 200–300 UAH per kilogram, and cherries have fallen to 100–120 UAH.
In addition, chicken eggs in Ukraine continue to become cheaper following a spring price increase. In some retail chains, a dozen packaged eggs can already be purchased for less than 55 hryvnias.
