The High Anti-Corruption Court upheld the charges against Yulia Tymoshenko in the case involving the bribery of members of parliament

The High Anti-Corruption Court upheld the charges against Yulia Tymoshenko in the case involving the bribery of members of parliament

The High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) has denied the appeal filed by Yulia Tymoshenko, leader of the Batkivshchyna faction, seeking to overturn the notice of suspicion.

The politician is suspected of attempting to bribe elected officials to lobby for political decisions.

The court session was held in closed session while reviewing key evidence from the prosecution—audio recordings of conversations contained in the case file.

After listening to the recordings, the court proceeded to the open session, where it heard arguments from both sides.

Tymoshenko’s defense insisted that the charges are unfounded and that the evidence is insufficient to bring formal charges.

Attorney Oleksandr Gotin stated that at the time the charges were served, prosecutors did not have sufficient grounds for such a procedural step.

However, after reviewing the submitted materials, the judges found no violations in the actions of the NABU detectives and SAPO prosecutors. “The defense will appeal the decision after reviewing the full reasoning,” added the MP’s representative.

The criminal proceedings concern events from January 2026. At that time, law enforcement officers conducted a search at the central office of the “Batkivshchyna” party, during which $40,000 was seized from Yulia Tymoshenko.

Investigators claim that these funds were intended to bribe three lawmakers from another faction who were supposed to vote according to the instructions of the “Batkivshchyna” leader.

According to investigators, the suspect attempted to influence the balance of power in parliament by encouraging colleagues to switch to her faction or support specific legislative initiatives.

The High Anti-Corruption Court’s refusal to overturn the charges gives anti-corruption authorities the right to continue the pre-trial investigation and gather additional evidence of illegal activity.

NABU returned the seized funds to Tymoshenko

As a reminder, the court is considering Tymoshenko’s appeal against the seizure of her property.

The court also lifted the seizure of some of Yulia Tymoshenko’s and her husband’s property.
