Vygivsky revealed how many people work for the National Police

Ivan Vygivsky, Head of the National Police of Ukraine, reported a critical shortage of personnel within law enforcement agencies.

Ivan Vyhovsky discussed this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

Currently, just over 100,000 people are officially employed within the force, which is significantly fewer than the figures circulating on social media.

According to the head of the agency, the staffing situation remains difficult due to low salaries and excessive workloads.

Despite the constant announcement of competitions for vacant positions, the number of candidates willing to join the service under wartime conditions is insufficient.

Vyhovsky expressed surprise at the data cited by so-called “experts” and “opinion leaders” online. Some of them claim that there are 200, 300, or even 400,000 police officers, which has nothing to do with reality.

“Officially, there are just over 100,000 police officers currently serving in the National Police,” the head of the agency emphasized.

He urged citizens not to trust dubious sources and to rely only on verified facts regarding the size of the law enforcement agency.

The overall staffing shortage in the National Police currently stands at about 18%. The most critical situation is observed in the patrol police, which works directly “on the streets”—there, the shortage reaches 25.9%.

This staffing shortage means that existing employees are forced to handle double the workload.

High requirements for candidates and the specific nature of the service deter many potential recruits, which only exacerbates the staffing crisis within the Ministry of Internal Affairs system.

The Head of the National Police stated that law enforcement officers’ participation in mobilization efforts is not their direct duty and has negative consequences.
