The Romanian Navy neutralized a Russian anti-landing mine off the Black Sea coast

On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, the Romanian Navy carried out a successful controlled detonation of an anti-landing mine that had been washed ashore on the country’s Black Sea coast by a storm.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the dangerous object was discovered on a sandy beach between the popular seaside resort towns of Vama Veche and “2 Mai.” Experts identified the find as a Russian-made “YARM” mine (an anchor-type river mine barrier, which is also actively used as an anti-landing mine in coastal areas).

Immediately after the threat was detected, the area was cordoned off, and a special unit of the Romanian Navy promptly neutralized the munition by detonating it. The defense ministry did not specify the exact age of this particular mine or how long it had been in the water. The Black Sea remains heavily littered with drifting mines since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, forcing NATO coastal nations to regularly conduct operations to neutralize such dangerous objects.

This was officially reported by the Romanian Ministry of Defense.

As a reminder, in Romania, on the coast of the Roselm estuary, waves washed ashore a rocket booster.

Sappers in Istanbul recovered a drone from the beach that resembled the Ukrainian long-range UJ-22 kamikaze drone. It was equipped with a bomb.

Earlier, a sea mine was washed ashore on a beach in Batumi, after which it detonated.
