A bus driver in the Ternopil region caused a traffic accident while having a blood alcohol level of 3.11 per mille
In the village of Bobulynci, Chortkiv District, a bus driver who was heavily intoxicated caused a traffic accident that left three passengers injured.
The accident occurred around 2:20 p.m. on September 10. The driver of the bus, which was traveling on the “Terebovlia–Zarvanytsia–Buchach” route, lost control of the vehicle, veered onto the shoulder, and crashed into a power pole.
While speaking with the driver, police officers suspected that he was intoxicated. A breathalyzer test using a “Drager” device showed a blood alcohol content of 3.11 per mille—approximately 15 times the legal limit.
At the time of the accident, there were eight passengers in the vehicle. Three people sustained injuries of varying severity and were hospitalized.
Law enforcement officers detained the driver. A criminal case was opened regarding the accident under Part 1 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—violation of traffic safety rules while intoxicated, resulting in bodily injury to the victims.
The driver faces up to three years in prison and up to five years of disqualification from driving.
