The late State Border Guard Service Colonel Roman Palamar was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine
The President awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to State Border Guard Service Colonel Roman Palamar from the Ternopil region, who was killed while carrying out a combat mission. The soldier was evacuating wounded troops from the battlefield when he was killed.
The President of Ukraine awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine and the Order of the Golden Star to State Border Guard Service Colonel Roman Palamar. This was reported on October 2 by the “Gart” Brigade, where the soldier served. Roman Palamar was killed while evacuating wounded soldiers from the battlefield.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the corresponding decree on October 1. Roman Palamar was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine for his personal courage and heroism in defending Ukraine’s state sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The brigade noted that the colonel was killed while evacuating three wounded comrades from the battlefield. On March 5, 2026, in the Vovchansk direction, an enemy FPV drone attacked a vehicle carrying soldiers, wounding three of them. Colonel Roman Palamar led the ground evacuation team. As they advanced, the enemy launched a second drone strike, which proved fatal for the 40-year-old colonel.
It should be noted that Roman Palamar was born on June 5, 1985, in Zbarazh, Ternopil Oblast. He graduated from the National Academy of the State Border Guard Service. Since 2014, he had been defending Ukraine against Russian aggression, serving as commandant of the “Gart” Brigade’s rapid-response border command post. He was buried in Khmelnytskyi.
