Zelenskyy announced talks in France regarding the Freya missile defense system

The first meeting dedicated to the Ukrainian “Freya” anti-ballistic missile system project will take place in France in the coming days. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this during an online briefing with the media.

According to the Head of State, the system will serve as a European model and a domestic counterpart to the Patriot systems in terms of intercepting ballistic targets. Provided there is support from international leaders and specialized companies, the project will move into the implementation phase. In addition to meeting Ukraine’s needs, the plan is to share the concept and technological solutions with European partners who are providing assistance during the war.

He noted that if the leaders and companies to whom this project is presented support “Freya,” it “will come to life.”

“The number one priority is anti-ballistics. And Freyja can help Ukraine first and foremost (...) And, importantly, we will share this idea with all our partners, especially the Europeans who have helped Ukraine during this war,” Zelenskyy added.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that a separate meeting of international partners dedicated to the creation of the pan-European missile defense system FREYJA may take place in the near future. According to him, Ukraine hopes to hold the meeting as early as July or August, since the project’s implementation needs to be accelerated as much as possible.

Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine has not yet received some of the missiles for air defense systems that partners had previously promised to supply. He said that due to such delays, the country is losing the opportunity to better protect its people and civilian infrastructure from Russian attacks.
