Zelenskyy confirmed preparations for an important visit from the U.S.
Ukraine continues negotiations with U.S. representatives and is awaiting their arrival in Kyiv. This refers to a possible visit by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The government hopes to move from online discussions to substantive meetings. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this during a press briefing.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine maintains constant contact with the American negotiating team. So far, all negotiations have taken place online or by phone, but this process continues.
According to the head of state, this track remains very important. He noted that even without in-person meetings, results have been achieved—specifically, the return of Ukrainian prisoners of war. “Our dialogue with the U.S. team continues. So far, our negotiations and exchanges have taken place only by phone or online, and this track continues; it is very important for Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said.
The president added that Ukraine is expecting another prisoner exchange and hopes it will take place in the near future.
Separately, Zelenskyy confirmed that Kyiv is preparing for a possible visit by representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump—Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. According to him, this meeting is necessary to move on to detailed discussions about ending the war. “Regarding Kushner and Witkoff’s visit to us—to talk more about ending the war not over the phone, but to actually discuss the details. And yes, we are expecting them; I think they will come,” he noted.
The president also noted that for Ukraine, the war remains the top priority. At the same time, he said, the U.S. is currently focusing heavily on the situation surrounding Iran.
Despite this, Ukraine remains among the important topics for the American side. In Kyiv, officials hope that a face-to-face meeting will help advance negotiations and move toward more concrete decisions.
