Zelenskyy thanked Navrotsky for his support of Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to a congratulatory message from Polish President Karol Nawrocki on the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. He specifically thanked the Polish leader for his wishes for Ukraine’s victory and emphasized that Kyiv wants to continue developing relations with Warsaw.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy published a letter from Polish President Karol Nawrocki, which the latter sent on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day. Zelenskyy thanked Nawrocki for his congratulations and specifically noted his wish for Ukraine’s victory in the war against Russia. “I am grateful to Polish President Karol Nawrocki for his Independence Day greetings, especially for his wish for Ukraine’s victory,” the head of state wrote on the social media platform X.
Zelenskyy also mentioned the support Poland has provided to Ukraine since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion. According to him, Ukrainians will remember the assistance provided by Polish society and the Polish government. “We will always remember Poland’s help, its open hearts and doors from the very first days of the Russian invasion,” the Ukrainian president noted.
Separately, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is interested in further developing relations with Poland. He emphasized the importance of building these relations with an eye toward our shared history and contemporary challenges. “We seek to develop ties between our two strong nations—with respect and honesty regarding the past, with a clear-eyed view of current threats, and with optimism about our shared future in the EU and NATO,” Zelenskyy wrote.
Navrotsky’s message of congratulations was one of several international expressions of support for Ukraine on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the declaration of independence. Poland remains one of Ukraine’s closest neighbors and an important partner on security issues. At the same time, relations between Kyiv and Warsaw involve complex issues, particularly those related to historical memory. The Ukrainian side has repeatedly stated its readiness to resolve such issues through dialogue and not to allow them to undermine cooperation between the two countries.
In his statement, Zelenskyy emphasized the need to look forward. According to him, Ukraine and Poland share common security interests and a shared European future. The president also mentioned the prospect of Ukraine’s membership in the European Union and NATO. He stressed that Kyiv wants to develop relations with Warsaw based on mutual respect, an honest approach to the past, and a shared vision for the future. The Ukrainian head of state announced this on social media platform X and published Navrotsky’s letter.
