Zelenskyy promised a response to Russian attacks on bridges
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine will continue to respond to Russian strikes, particularly those targeting bridges. According to him, Russia is also attacking civilian infrastructure—warehouses, data centers, and mobile communication facilities. Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine does not plan to leave such attacks unanswered.
Zelenskyy made these remarks during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Kyiv. The president stated that Ukraine has already responded to Russian strikes on civilian and logistical infrastructure. He cited as examples Russian attacks on warehouses belonging to “Nova Poshta” and “Ukrposhta.”
According to Zelenskyy, following these strikes, Ukraine struck targets belonging to the Russian marketplace Wildberries. “To be honest, I’m not surprised by this approach to the war—Russia’s hatred toward Ukraine—but I am surprised by this specific approach, because they struck our warehouses: ‘Nova Poshta,’ ‘Ukrposhta,’ and so on. They struck, and we gave them a fitting response by targeting Wildberries. Now they’re striking bridges—do they really think we won’t respond?” Zelenskyy said.
The president also stated that Russian troops continue to attack infrastructure essential to the civilian population. This includes, in particular, data centers and mobile operators’ facilities. In recent days, digital and telecommunications infrastructure facilities in Kyiv have indeed been damaged. Specifically, the dline.ua data center was destroyed as a result of a Russian strike, and another data center in the capital ceased operations due to critical damage.
As early as September 25, Zelenskyy reported that, following the Russian attacks, additional measures had been adopted to protect data centers and other critical communications facilities. According to him, this should help ensure their uninterrupted operation. Zelenskyy also pointed out that mobile communications are used not only in Ukraine. He stated that strikes on the relevant infrastructure could also have consequences for Russia itself. “Doesn’t Putin realize that mobile communications are used not only in Kyiv, in Ukraine? They use it in Moscow, too. I’m just, honestly, surprised by this brutal desire to escalate the conflict every single day,” the president said.
In his view, the Russian leadership is counting on the war to intensify further. “In other words, he (Putin—ed.) is counting on constant escalation. He really wants this,” Zelenskyy said.
The president also commented on the idea that to end the war, it’s enough to simply ask Vladimir Putin to cease hostilities. “This is a response to all those who believe that all you have to do is ask Putin—and he’ll definitely end the war. It just won’t work,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
In this way, the president linked Russian strikes on bridges and other infrastructure targets to a broader campaign of attacks. At the same time, he presented statements about further Ukrainian strikes and their targets as Ukraine’s position regarding its response to Russian attacks.
On the night of October 4, Russian forces launched 135 drones into Ukrainian territory, including “Shaheds,” “Gerberas,” “Banderole”/“Dan-T,” and decoy drones.
On the morning of October 4, Russian forces struck downtown Dnipro, targeting the premises of a telecommunications company.
In the Dnipro district of the capital, debris from enemy drones was reported to have fallen at two locations on the morning of October 4. This was reported by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
