Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy provided details on the content of his official letter to U.S. President Donald Trump and Congress. He is still awaiting a response.
Zelenskyy mentioned this during a briefing following the signing of a security agreement with Sweden.
In the document, the head of state emphasized the acute shortage of missiles for air defense systems and urged the American side to act more quickly ahead of the coming winter. Zelenskyy noted that diplomacy is currently unable to stop Russia, and that Ukraine is holding back the aggressor with its own long-range strikes, adding that during a recent meeting, U.S. senators and congressmen supported the proposals put forward by Kyiv.
The Ukrainian leader paid special attention to the issue of localizing defense production. According to him, he raised the issue of obtaining a license to manufacture anti-ballistic missiles during Joe Biden’s term and continued these negotiations with Donald Trump. Zelenskyy emphasized that it is critically important for Ukraine to either promptly secure the supply of ready-made missiles for Patriot systems or obtain permission to produce them independently.
The president expressed hope that Ukrainian defense enterprises will eventually be able to obtain a license to manufacture PAC-3-type missiles. This would allow Ukraine to meet its domestic needs and, in the long term, export these scarce weapons to other countries, particularly in the Middle East, where there is currently high demand for air defense systems. If, however, a license cannot be obtained, Ukraine will focus on developing its own anti-ballistic system.
