Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to an online petition from the parents of 12-year-old Hryhorii Hlushych, who died in a fatal traffic accident.

“I have sent a letter to the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, I. Klymenko, and to Prime Minister of Ukraine S. Koretsky, requesting that they thoroughly examine the issue raised in the online petition and inform its author of the results,” Zelenskyy’s response reads.

Grigory Glushich’s father emphasized that simply increasing fines for traffic violations is not enough.

“We’re waiting for action. Raising fines isn’t enough. Drivers don’t pay them any mind because they don’t really hurt. A slightly higher price won’t change the desire to drive fast among those who are willing to pay.

Drivers’ licenses must be revoked for repeated serious violations. Those who drive after having their licenses revoked must be jailed,” he stressed.

Thus, the family of the deceased advocates for stricter accountability for drivers who systematically violate traffic laws, particularly those who continue to drive after having their licenses revoked.

In his response, the head of state stated that he had instructed officials to review the issue raised in the petition.

As a reminder, in the Fastiv District of Kyiv Oblast, a 17-year-old driver of a Mitsubishi lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and crashed into a tree at high speed.

As a reminder, the Pryluky City and District Court in Chernihiv Oblast sentenced a former police officer to eight years in prison for a fatal traffic accident that resulted in the death of a six-year-old child.

In the Lviv region, a 68-year-old driver of a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, who was under the influence of alcohol, fatally struck a Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemember. This was reported by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
