New details emerge about the murder of the Kharkiv deputy mayor’s son in Austria
Austrian law enforcement officers have detained two Ukrainian citizens suspected of murdering a 21-year-old Ukrainian man, whose body was found in a burned-out car at the end of November. The victim turned out to be the son of the deputy mayor of Kharkiv, Serhiy Kuzmin.
The suspects are a 19-year-old and a 45-year-old Ukrainian who returned to Ukraine after the crime. They were detained at the end of November after an international manhunt.
According to police, the attackers first assaulted Kuzmin in a hotel garage in central Vienna, where they left a ‘large pool of blood.’ They then took the young man to another part of the city and set him and his car on fire.
The autopsy revealed serious head injuries, knocked-out teeth, and 80% of the body burned. The absence of soot particles in his lungs indicates that he died before or at the beginning of the fire.
According to the police, the motive for the crime was to obtain the password to the victim's crypto wallet. The attackers withdrew funds from it, and a significant amount of cash was seized from them during their arrest.
