The Ukrainian Armed Forces have recaptured some territories; Syrsky discussed the year's results
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that since the beginning of 2026, Ukrainian forces have managed to liberate more than 670 square kilometers of territory. He also reported on a series of operations against Russian forces, particularly in the occupied territories and in Crimea. According to him, these measures are aimed at weakening the enemy’s logistics and combat capabilities.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that since the beginning of 2026, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have liberated more than 670 square kilometers of territory from Russian troops.
He noted that Ukrainian forces are conducting comprehensive operations not only along the front lines but also in the temporarily occupied territories, including Crimea. These operations are designed to disrupt Russian troop logistics, cut off ammunition supplies, and hinder the movement of units. “A whole range of measures is being carried out to weaken the enemy, paralyze its logistics, and prevent the redeployment of troops to the front and the delivery of ammunition,” noted Oleksandr Syrskyi.
He emphasized that Ukrainian forces are working to make the functioning of the Russian rear as difficult as possible and to reduce its ability to conduct offensive operations. “And, of course, to disrupt all of its strategic and operational-strategic transport operations,” he added.
Syrskyi also noted that this year’s results are part of a broader strategic plan covering both 2025 and 2026. According to him, the previous campaign was aimed at depleting the main Russian forces and reducing their offensive potential. “The 2025 campaign was precisely designed to gradually wear down the enemy’s main forces, increase its losses, and prevent it from continuing its offensive on all operational-strategic fronts,” the commander-in-chief explained.
He added that Ukrainian forces continue to build on their advantage in specific areas of combat and in destroying Russian units, while also working to limit the enemy’s ability to replenish its personnel. According to Syrskyi, the situation on the front remains dynamic, and the key objective of Ukrainian forces is to maintain and strengthen their advantage over the enemy in the long term. This was stated by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi in an interview with TSN.
Russia is considering several scenarios for new offensive operations against Ukraine. According to Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, one of the most likely directions could be the Chernihiv region, where the occupiers may attempt to break through from the territory of Russia’s Bryansk region.
