The Academy of Sciences reported on those killed and missing at the site of the Russian strike
During the strike on the building of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences in Kyiv on September 28, scientists and staff members of the institution were killed, and a number of people remain unaccounted for.
“On September 28, 2026, a Russian strike directly hit the building of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kyiv—a place where scientists and Academy staff come to work every day. There have been fatalities. We still have no contact with some of our colleagues. We are waiting for news about them and remain hopeful,” reads a statement from the NASU.
The NAS of Ukraine emphasized that this strike is yet another act of terror by the Russian Federation against the civilian population, as well as a deliberate attempt to destroy Ukrainian science, education, and culture.

On September 28, following a Russian strike, a building belonging to the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine caught fire in central Kyiv. Rescue workers are on the scene extinguishing the fire and searching the building—there may be people inside.
In Brovary, Kyiv Oblast, a fire broke out on the grounds of an industrial enterprise due to debris falling from a downed Russian drone. The fire occurred in the industrial zone. According to preliminary information, there are no casualties.
In Kyiv’s Solomyanskyi District, debris was reported to have struck an educational institution following a Russian attack. Information regarding the extent of the damage and any potential casualties is being verified.
