A line of 150 ships has formed off Russian ports on the Baltic Sea

A significant line of ships has formed near Russian ports on the Baltic Sea. According to the Russian Forces Spotter project, there are about 150 ships in the line, including 65 tankers and 85 general-cargo vessels.

The total length of the queue has already reached about 30 nautical miles—approximately 50 kilometers. According to the data, ships have to wait about five days to be loaded at the port of Ust-Luga.

Russian Forces Spotter attributes the formation of the queue to the rerouting of part of Russia’s export flows from the Black Sea to the Baltic Sea. The source notes that maritime transport in the Black Sea is significantly affected by Ukrainian attacks.

The sharp increase in cargo volumes through the Baltic Sea is placing additional strain on regional logistics, which could lead to higher costs and longer transit times.

Russian border guards detained the Cyprus-flagged dry cargo ship Västerbotten in the Gulf of Finland as it was en route to the Estonian port of Sillamäe.

In Estonia, the government has removed a mechanism to support passenger shipping from the new state budget strategy. Tallink and the Independent Estonian Seafarers’ Union stated that this decision could increase the likelihood that some ships, along with their crews, would be transferred from the Estonian flag.
