Fedorov congratulated Drapato on his appointment as commander-in-chief and thanked Syrsky
Former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov congratulated Major General Mykhailo Drapaty on his appointment as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He also reported that he had called General Oleksandr Syrskyi and thanked him for defending the Kyiv region, the Kharkiv operation, and other historic battles.
Fedorov wrote about this on Facebook. He called Drapato’s appointment “a breath of fresh air and new hope in the struggle of free people for freedom and justice” and added: “A voice of change that could not be ignored.”
According to Fedorov, the high expectations of Ukrainians must be met with a clear vision for ending the war for independence, a strong team, and decisive action. Among such actions, he cited saving the lives of soldiers, automating the front lines, launching asymmetric strikes, and crippling the Russian economy.
“I called General Oleksandr Syrskyi and thanked him for defending the Kyiv region, the Kharkiv operation, and other historic battles. This is already an important part of Ukraine’s history. But we need to move even faster and write new chapters, correcting all previous mistakes,” Fedorov said.
From July 16 to 20, protests took place in Kyiv and other cities demanding that Fedorov be reinstated as defense minister and that Syrskyi be dismissed from his post as commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After six days of protests, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Syrsky’s dismissal and the appointment of Drapato. Zelenskyy also stated that he had offered Fedorov “a prominent position in the government.”
