Finland is allocating an additional €40 million to Ukraine for air defense

Finland will allocate an additional 40 million euros to support Ukraine as part of the international PURL initiative. According to Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, these funds will be directed primarily toward strengthening air defense and protecting Ukrainians from Russian missile attacks.

Ukraine will receive additional financial support from Finland to strengthen its air defense system. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced the Finnish government’s new decision, emphasizing that the 40 million euros will be directed toward security needs and the protection of Ukrainian airspace. According to the head of government, the funds will be provided as part of the international PURL initiative, which helps Ukraine mobilize resources for its defense needs. Under current conditions, air defense remains one of the top priorities, as Russia continues to regularly attack Ukrainian cities with missiles and drones.

Svyrydenko noted that the additional funding will strengthen Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and help more effectively protect the civilian population from airstrikes. This is particularly important given the increasing number of attacks using ballistic missiles, which remain one of the most difficult targets to intercept.

Separately, the prime minister thanked the Finnish government and its leader for their support of Ukraine. She noted that Helsinki has remained one of Kyiv’s most consistent partners since the very beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion and regularly participates in military, humanitarian, and financial aid programs.

In recent years, Finland has repeatedly announced new support packages for Ukraine. The assistance covers both the defense sector and reconstruction projects, military training, equipment supplies, and support for critical infrastructure. The new funding marks another step forward in this cooperation.

Against the backdrop of constant Russian shelling, strengthening air defense remains a top priority for the Ukrainian government. The safety of millions of people, as well as the protection of energy facilities, hospitals, schools, and other critical infrastructure, depends on the effectiveness of the air defense system. “These funds will strengthen our air defense—and, accordingly, will help protect people from criminal Russian attacks, including ballistic missile strikes,” emphasized Yulia Svyrydenko.

She also expressed gratitude to Finland for its unwavering support of Ukraine. “Finland has stood by Ukraine from the very first day of the full-scale invasion,” the prime minister noted. At this time, details regarding the use of the additional 40 million euros have not been disclosed. At the same time, Ukrainian authorities emphasize that every such decision by partners helps strengthen the country’s defense capabilities and enhances the protection of citizens against airborne threats. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced this on Facebook.
