Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov Accuses Europe of Obstructing Talks — CBS News
In the United States, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, of the aggressor state, accused European countries during his address to the UN General Assembly of attempting to derail negotiations on ending Russia's war against Ukraine. CBS News reported this, citing AFP.
Lavrov said that Europe was allegedly doing everything possible to obstruct peace talks in which the administration of US President Donald Trump is interested. He also said that the goals of the so-called “special military operation” would be achieved regardless of the circumstances.
Meeting with the German Foreign Minister
Before his speech, Lavrov met with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. According to CBS News, this was the first meeting between the heads of the Russian and German foreign ministries since before the start of the war.
The talks took place amid heightened tensions between Berlin and Moscow. Germany accused Russia of organizing an attempted drone attack on Leipzig Airport, and each country ordered the closure of the other's consulate. European states, including Germany, have in recent days reported increased Russian sabotage activity on their territory.

Statements on a Possible Deal
In his speech, Wadephul said that Russia's war is directed against the lives of millions of innocent people, the existence of the Ukrainian state and culture, as well as the European peace order. He called on Russia to negotiate an end to the hostilities.
After meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the UN General Assembly, Trump expressed hope that Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin could reach a deal, possibly before the onset of a harsh winter. Zelenskyy, for his part, said that Russia is escalating every day and that the world must give a stronger response to harsher Russian strikes.
On Saturday, September 26, Russian attacks claimed the lives of four people in Ukraine, officials said. At the same time, Ukraine continued carrying out long-range drone strikes on Russian oil refineries and industrial facilities.
