211 Russians identified as being involved in atrocities in Bucha
Ukrainian law enforcement agencies have identified and formally charged 211 individuals who committed war crimes in Bucha and the Bucha district.
According to Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, in January 2026 alone investigators identified two more executioners from the Russian armed forces involved in the murder and torture of civilians during the occupation of the region in spring 2022.
Among the recently exposed perpetrators are a combat vehicle commander from Russia’s 234th regiment, who threatened a civilian with murder, and a reconnaissance soldier from the 34th brigade who, together with accomplices, tortured two local residents using a stun gun and a knife. An indictment has also been sent to court against another Russian commander who, in March 2022, shot a 41-year-old man 16 times for refusing to carry out an order.
The investigation is ongoing under difficult conditions, as most cases are being conducted in absentia. Nevertheless, prosecutors are actively using OSINT technologies to track the movements of Russian units and identify every serviceman involved. The Prosecutor General stressed that law enforcement bodies are determined to ensure the inevitability of punishment for all those who subjected residents of Kyiv region to physical and psychological abuse.
Earlier, in Kherson region, Ukrainian forces captured an occupier who had previously fought near Kyiv. During interrogation, he confessed to shooting a civilian resident of Bucha.
The Associated Press, in cooperation with PBS Frontline and visual data analysts from SITU Research, analysed CCTV footage, intercepted phone calls of Russian occupiers and reconstructed the so-called “cleansing operation” carried out in Bucha during the occupation of the town near Kyiv.
