Lavrov stated that Russia needs "security guarantees"

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that ending the Russian-Ukrainian war is allegedly impossible without providing security guarantees to Russia.

He voiced this position in response to a question from Russian media, as published by the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“Now that the prospect of a political and diplomatic settlement is on the horizon, the European Union, seeking a seat at the negotiating table, has begun talking about the need to provide firm security guarantees to Ukraine as a key element of a peaceful solution. I will omit the fact that no one in the European Union has said a single word about security guarantees for Russia, without which the conflict cannot be resolved,” Lavrov stated.

He also made it clear that he currently does not support the idea of providing security guarantees to Ukraine.

Separately, the Russian Foreign Minister touched on the topic of national minorities in Ukraine. In particular, he mentioned the Hungarian community and reported that he had discussed this issue with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó. At the same time, Lavrov repeated the traditional accusations regarding the alleged restriction of the rights of Russian and other minorities in Ukraine.

As a reminder, Ukraine has proposed extending the ceasefire beyond Easter.
