Massive Russian attack on Kyiv: casualties, destruction, and water supply issues
On the night of September 17, Russia launched a massive ballistic missile attack on Kyiv. The strikes caused damage, injuries, and disruptions to the water supply.
Powerful explosions were heard in the capital. The Kyiv City Military Administration issued the following warning:
“An air raid alert has been declared in Kyiv due to the threat of missile strikes. We urge city residents to proceed to the nearest shelters.”
The capital’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, wrote that, according to preliminary reports, debris fell at several locations in the Dniprovskyi district. An office building and a residential building were damaged. Debris also fell on warehouse premises and near a gas station.
In the Svyatoshynsky district, there are preliminary reports of a strike on a non-residential building. Emergency services are on their way. Details are being confirmed.
Oleksandr Kovtunov, head of the Darnytskyi District State Administration, wrote: “In certain areas of the Darnytskyi district, there is reduced water pressure or no water supply. We are currently investigating the causes and assessing the situation. I will provide further updates on the progress and restoration of the water supply. We are keeping the situation under control.”
At 3:45 a.m., Klitschko reported that new damage resulting from an enemy attack had been recorded in the Dniprovskyi District. At one location, the windows and facade of a three-story office building were damaged. Windows were also shattered in several residential buildings.
In the Solomyanskyi district, according to preliminary reports, a warehouse building has been destroyed. There is no fire at this time.
“Water pressure has been reduced on the left bank of the capital, as well as in the Solomyansky, Holosiivsky, and Sviatoshynsky districts. Experts are currently investigating the cause,” Klitschko wrote.
Later, Klitschko reported that specialists are restoring water pressure to the areas of the capital where water supply problems have arisen.
At 4:50 a.m., Klitschko reported: “There are currently 12 casualties in the capital as a result of the enemy’s attack. Among the wounded are two children, aged 10 and 12. Nine of the victims are in hospitals.”

On September 15, a Russian drone strike was recorded in Kyiv’s Svyatoshynskyi district. Black smoke is rising from the site.
In the Solomyanskyi district of the capital, a strike was recorded on the grounds of a garage cooperative.
