A mercenary from Nepal has been eliminated in the Donetsk region

Military intelligence identified among the eliminated occupying forces a citizen of Nepal, born in 1995, who had been fighting as part of Russian units.

This was reported by the Main Directorate of Intelligence in its report dated 6 April 2026. Kumal signed a contract in Moscow in October 2023 and served in military unit No. 29328, where mass desertions among foreign fighters had previously been recorded.

According to the investigation, in March 2024 the mercenary officially renounced Russian citizenship and requested to return home, having realised the real risks on the front line. The deceased’s family took part in protests in Nepal demanding the repatriation of their compatriots; however, Russian command sent Kumal on an assault operation due to catastrophic infantry losses.

The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine warns foreign nationals against travelling to Russia, as any illegal employment there may result in being forcibly sent to a combat zone without proper training.

At present, the body of the eliminated combatant remains in territory controlled by Ukraine for further identification and procedural actions.

Around 200 Kenyan citizens are fighting on Russia’s side in Ukraine, including former members of the security forces.

Russia is expanding its economic ties with Kenya in order to strengthen political influence in the region and recruit local citizens to participate in the war against Ukraine.

Russia is also planning to conclude a labour mobility agreement with India to attract a greater number of Indian citizens as migrant workers.
