Zhirinovsky's former aide, known for the Safonov meme, was eliminated at the front
Alexander Safonov, a former aide to LDPR founder Vladimir Zhirinovsky, was killed in Ukraine. He became well-known after the “Safonov, pay up!” meme went viral and spent about four years in the combat zone.
Vasily Vlasov, a former deputy of the Russian State Duma, announced Safonov’s death on August 28. He called the deceased his friend and comrade and noted that he had known him for about ten years.
According to Russian media reports, Safonov volunteered for military service by signing a contract with the Russian armed forces. He spent about four years in the combat zone.
