In the Sumy region, a Russian attack claimed the lives of a mother and her 9-year-old son

On the morning of August 14, Russian troops attacked a private home in the village of Stepanivka in the Sumy region. The strike killed 9-year-old Gleb Kovtunenko and his 29-year-old mother, Olga.

According to local residents, the family was asleep at the time. The boy’s father and his grandmother suffered severe burns and are currently under medical care.

Russian occupiers attacked the house with two rocket-propelled drones. The boy was a student at Buryn City Lyceum No. 1, which his mother had previously attended.

“War takes away what is most precious—the lives of our children and those who were shaping the future of our community. This horrific tragedy has dealt a heavy blow to the entire teaching staff, the student body, and the parent community,” the post reads.

According to Oleg Grigorov, head of the regional military administration, the child and the woman were killed instantly. The site of the house is now in ruins and engulfed in flames.

As reported by “Suspilne,” the Russian army began attacking the village after 5 a.m. The family was asleep at the time.

According to the father-in-law of the deceased woman, his son and daughter-in-law suffered severe burns—they are being transported to Kyiv for surgery. The boy who died had celebrated his birthday in July.

In addition to the Kovtunenko family, two other people were injured.

This was reported on the school’s page.

The Russians once again attacked Sumy with guided aerial bombs.

The day before, Russian troops attacked the grounds of a hospital in central Kherson with a drone. Four female medical workers were injured; all suffered blast injuries and concussions.

On the night of July 19, Russian forces launched a ballistic missile strike on Kyiv. One person was killed and eight others were wounded as a result of the attack. Damage and fires were reported in five districts of the capital.

Throughout the day on July 17, Russian forces carried out strikes on Kharkiv and 29 other settlements in the Kharkiv region. Two people were killed and 18 others were injured as a result of the shelling; among the injured were five children.
