Traces of petroleum products, which were likely washed ashore from the sea, have been discovered on a beach near Sochi, in the village of Chemtokvadze.
This is reported by Russian sources.
A video posted on social media shows oil clumps on a pebble beach. According to the author of the post, the pollution was recorded on a stretch of about 200 meters in the Lazarevsky District, approximately 40 kilometers from Sochi.
Also, on May 8, isolated patches of fuel oil were discovered in the temporarily occupied city of Sevastopol. According to local residents, bags containing collected debris were spotted on city beaches.
Ecologist Igor Shkradyuk suggested that the substance in question is oil, not fuel oil, and that the source could be an oil spill that has been drifting in the Black Sea since April. According to him, depending on wind direction, oil products could reach the coast from Gelendzhik to Sochi.
The day before, satellite images also appeared online showing extensive oil slicks in the waters near Tuapse heading toward Sochi.
