Oleksandr Klymenko, a cameraman and editor for the Poltava-based television channels “Misto” and “Tsentralnyi,” who served as a signalman in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was killed while defending Ukraine.

This was reported by the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine.

Oleksandr Klymenko joined the Ukrainian military in October 2023. He served as a signalman and carried out combat missions on the front lines.

In mid-2024, the soldier went missing while carrying out a combat mission. For a long time, his family and colleagues hoped that he was being held captive.

“We hoped he was alive, that he was a prisoner of war, and that he would return. The miracle did not happen,” said the deceased’s colleague, Oleksandr Usachov of “Suspilne Poltava.”

On April 30, 2026, DNA testing officially confirmed the identity of Oleksandr Klymenko among the bodies of fallen Ukrainian defenders returned to Ukraine.

The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine reported that Oleksandr Klymenko became the 119th media professional to die in the ranks of the Ukrainian Defense Forces since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Colleagues and friends remember Oleksandr as a professional cameraman, a talented film editor, and a man who stood up to defend his country after the start of the full-scale war.

Earlier, it was reported that Ukrainian officer and armwrestling master of sports Ihor Hladkyi was killed in the war against Russia. He was carrying out a combat mission in the Donetsk region when he sustained a fatal wound; he was 28 years old.

Ukraine has confirmed the death of 24-year-old Georgian volunteer Revaz Geghechkori.
