Lyubomyr Bonko, a volleyball player from the Ternopil region, was killed in the war
Russian shelling claimed the life of Lyubomyr Bonko, a native of the Ternopil region, volleyball player, and amateur soccer player.
He was defending Ukraine in the Donetsk region and was carrying out a combat mission near Sloviansk. For over a month, Lyubomyr Bonko was considered missing in action, but his death was later confirmed.
Lyubomyr Bonko Killed
Lyubomyr Bonko had been involved in sports since childhood; in volleyball, he reached the level of the Ukrainian Premier League. He played as an outside hitter for the Police Security team.
However, Bonko’s athletic interests were not limited to volleyball. He also played soccer at the amateur level, representing the clubs Inter-Gol, Shumsk, and Neo-Agro.
On the front lines, the athlete served as the commander of a company of unmanned aerial vehicle systems in a mechanized battalion.
On August 7, while carrying out a mission in the Kramatorsk district of Donetsk Oblast near the city of Sloviansk, Lyubomyr came under Russian fire from multiple-launch rocket systems.
For over a month, he was officially listed as missing in action. But recently, DNA testing confirmed the hero’s death. He was 36 years old. The funeral for Lyubomyr Bonko will take place on September 17 in his hometown of Velyki Dederkaly in the Ternopil region.
Judo athlete Oleksandr Ivanov was killed in the war.
On September 15, a Russian drone strike was recorded in the Svyatoshynsky district of Kyiv. Black smoke is rising from the site.
In the Solomyanskyi district of the capital, a strike was recorded on the grounds of a garage cooperative.
