In the Zhytomyr region, two Russian agents were sentenced to 15 years for arson on the railroad
A court has sentenced two Russian intelligence agents who were caught carrying out acts of sabotage against Ukrzaliznytsia facilities in the Zhytomyr region. Based on evidence from the Security Service of Ukraine, both were sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The investigation established that the perpetrators were detained back in January 2025. Acting on orders from their Russian handlers, they set fire to railway infrastructure facilities in an attempt to disrupt the transportation network. The saboteurs’ primary targets were the relay cabinets of signaling systems, which ensure the safe movement of trains.
It has been established that the acts of sabotage were carried out by two drug addicts from Berdychiv, who came to the attention of the Russians while searching for “easy money” on Telegram channels.
Acting on the enemy’s orders, the pair of agents attempted to disrupt the logistics of rail transportation between several regions.
To do this, the perpetrators scouted the location of a relay cabinet and then set it on fire using a flammable mixture.
In addition, the agents recorded the fire on a smartphone camera to “report” to their handler in Russia.
SBU officers apprehended the agents “red-handed.” During searches, incendiary devices and mobile phones containing evidence of subversive activities in favor of the aggressor country were seized from them.
Based on evidence presented by Security Service investigators, the court found both detainees guilty under Part 2 of Article 113 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (sabotage committed under martial law).
