Eyewitnesses described how people died while trying to reach a shelter in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv
Eyewitnesses to the Russian missile strike on the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv described how residents tried to save themselves during the nighttime attack. According to preliminary reports, seven people were killed as a result of the shelling, most of them near the spot people were using as a shelter.

After the air raid siren sounded, local residents ran to a concrete structure they believed to be a safe shelter. It was at that very moment that the first explosion occurred.
According to preliminary information, five people were killed near the shelter. As eyewitnesses rushed to help the wounded, a second missile struck nearby, killing two more people.
The attack sparked fires, destroyed an administrative building and a warehouse, damaged 13 high-rise residential buildings, burned cars, and left a large crater at the site of one of the strikes.
Oleg, a resident of one of the damaged buildings, said that his neighbor on the eighth floor was killed during the attack.
“The first explosion happened while everyone was asleep. The second one went off as people started running away. It hit those who were running for cover. All the three-room apartments were damaged. My door was warped so badly that I had to break it open. Some people couldn’t get out at all,” he said.
Another resident of the area, Lana, said that after the first explosions, she and her family took shelter in the underground parking garage.
“We woke up to the alarm and went out into the hallway. Then we heard explosions—everything was blown to pieces. We ran downstairs, and there were more explosions. We took shelter in the parking garage. Then the explosions kept coming, one after another,” the woman recalled.
According to her, the family’s car was completely burned, and three windows in their apartment were blown out.
Lana also highlighted the problem of shelter accessibility in the area.
“The closest shelter for us is a school, but it’s closed at night. People ran into what they thought was a shelter and died. We didn’t go there—and thank God,” she noted.

During a massive missile attack on Kyiv on the night of August 1, Russian forces struck the Kyivmedspetstrans facility twice. As a result of the shelling, five ambulances were completely burned to the ground, and another 20 specialized vehicles sustained significant damage.
On the night of August 1, Russian troops carried out one of the largest airstrikes, firing 35 missiles at Ukraine—27 of which were ballistic—as well as 185 attack drones of various types. Following yet another massive Russian attack on Kyiv, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga stated that the country urgently needs additional air and missile defense systems, as well as interceptor missiles.

On the evening of July 31, a Russian attack drone struck a high-rise residential building in the Saltivsky district of Kharkiv. According to preliminary reports, the building’s roof was damaged, but there were no casualties.
As a reminder, Russian drones attacked the Chernihiv region, damaging a gas station and a resort.
Russia launched a ballistic missile strike on Kyiv on the afternoon of July 24, although such attacks usually take place at night. An expert believes this may have been an attempt to wear down Ukraine’s air defense, a show of force, or the result of a technical delay in the missile launch.
