In Mariupol, occupiers opened a drama theater on a mass grave of 600 residents
In temporarily occupied Mariupol, the Russian “authorities” opened a drama theatre in the city centre after so-called “restoration.” Recall that in March 2022, the Russian army dropped an aerial bomb on the building, killing civilians and destroying the theatre.
This was reported by the Mariupol City Council.
The official opening took place on Sunday, December 28. A concert was held at the site of the Russian crime, attended by the leader of the “DPR” Pushilin, the mayor of Saint Petersburg Beglov (under U.S. sanctions since April 2022), and Russian actor Mashkov, who has been sentenced in absentia in Ukraine for war propaganda.

The theatre was “restored” by the occupiers since July 2023. The basement areas were completely filled with concrete.
“The new building only imitates the destroyed theatre. Sculptures destroyed due to workers’ incompetence are of poor quality. The destroyed drama theatre did not have plaster—the facade was made of white Crimean stone, delivered by sea.”

“The occupation authorities simply painted brick walls. The ‘restoration’ of the theatre is a cynical attempt to hide the traces of a war crime and part of the aggressive Russification of the city,” reported the Mariupol City Council.

The occupiers plan to stage works by Russian writers and playwrights in the theatre’s repertoire.
