An official in charge of the Russian military's ammunition supply has died near Moscow
An explosion occurred in Balashikha, near Moscow, on the morning of June 9, which may have killed a high-ranking official from the Russian Ministry of Defense involved in supplying the army with ammunition.
According to preliminary reports, the victim may be Damir Davydov, head of the Russian Defense Ministry’s Main Missile and Artillery Directorate. Russian authorities have not yet provided official confirmation of this information.
It is known that Davydov was born in 1969 and worked for a long time in the field of weapons development and testing. He was involved in projects related to rocket engines and artillery ammunition and holds several patents in this field.
Until 2009, he headed the Central Technical Testing Bureau of one of the major arsenals, and later held leadership positions within the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
According to Russian sources, Davydov’s name was previously mentioned in documents that Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner Group, made public during a conflict with the military leadership. At that time, he was named as one of the officials responsible for the distribution of ammunition in the Russian army.
The circumstances of the explosion and the identity of the deceased have not been officially disclosed, and Russian law enforcement agencies have not yet commented on the incident.
