Peskov said that Putin and Lukashenko will discuss Zelenskyy's statements in the near future
Russian President Vladimir Putin and the self-proclaimed leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, plan to hold a face-to-face meeting in the near future.
The main topic of the talks will be the recent ultimatum issued by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding the dismantling of border relay stations.
The reason for the urgent consultations between the two dictators was the Ukrainian leader’s demand that special equipment be removed from border areas within a week.
This refers to technical equipment used to coordinate and direct airstrikes on Ukrainian territory.
The Ukrainian side has clearly warned that if this demand is ignored, military facilities on the territory of the neighboring state will be destroyed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Kremlin reacted very sharply to such statements by the Ukrainian military and political leadership, calling them unacceptable.
Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary for the Russian dictator, called the Ukrainian president’s words an “aggressive” threat, “interference in internal affairs,” and “an encroachment on the sovereignty” of Belarus.
The Russian side is attempting to demonstrate its full support for its sole military ally in the region.
Moscow and Minsk plan to develop a joint strategy in response to Ukraine’s decisive steps to defend its airspace.
Russian authorities are convinced that the Belarusian regime will be able to cope with the current challenges on its own, with technical support from Russia.
“But we have no doubt that the Belarusian leadership and Belarus itself are capable of ensuring their sovereignty,” Peskov emphasized during a conversation with journalists.
