Once the ceasefire ends, Russia will resume its attacks, and Ukraine will respond in kind — Zelenskyy

On the night of May 12, following the end of the partial ceasefire declared by Russia, the occupying forces launched a massive attack on Ukrainian territory. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga responded to this.

This was reported with reference to posts by Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Andriy Sibiga on social media.

According to Zelenskyy, Kyiv had proposed to Moscow that the ceasefire be extended, but Russia decided to resume its attacks. The president emphasized that Ukraine will continue to respond in kind to the aggressor’s actions.

The Foreign Ministry also stressed that the massive nighttime attack once again demonstrates the Kremlin’s unwillingness to pursue de-escalation. The Ukrainian side emphasizes that the response to Russian strikes will be proportionate.

Over 200 drones and aerial bombs

In a single night, Russia launched more than 200 attack drones at Ukraine. At the same time, over 80 aerial bombs and more than 30 airstrikes were recorded on the front lines.

Among the consequences of the attack are damage to energy facilities, residential apartment buildings, and a kindergarten. A civilian locomotive on the railway was also hit.

"We know that there are people wounded as a result of these strikes. Unfortunately, there are also fatalities. My condolences to their families and loved ones," the president added.

Zelenskyy also reiterated his previously stated position regarding reciprocal actions in response to Russia’s moves.

"We have said that we will respond in kind to all Russian actions. Russia must end this war, and it is Russia that must take the first step toward a real, lasting ceasefire," he stated.

Zelenskyy also urged partners not to ease pressure on Moscow.

"Until that happens, sanctions against Moscow are necessary and must continue to be enforced and strengthened. It is important that there be no let-up and that partners do not stand aside, but continue to work together for security, justice, and a lasting peace," he emphasized.

Foreign Ministry: Ukraine Proposed Extending the Ceasefire

Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga stated that Kyiv had proposed to Moscow to extend the partial ceasefire beyond May 11. Instead, it received a massive strike.

"Putin’s repeated rejection of the peace proposal must have consequences for him. Stronger pressure is needed through effective Ukrainian sanctions with long-term effects and decisive decisions by our partners," Sybiga wrote.

The Russian dictator must realize that the situation will only worsen for him, and “his only option must be to end the terror,” the foreign minister emphasized.

After the end of the so-called ceasefire, Russia launched over 200 drones at Ukraine.

Zelenskyyconfirmed a three-day ceasefire.

The May 9 parade in Moscow is under threat due to a lack of protection against attacks.

All mass events scheduled for May 9 were canceled in occupied Crimea.
