Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations of the Holy See, visited the site of the Russian missile strike on Kyiv. During his visit, he was shown the aftermath of the attack, which claimed the lives of civilians and destroyed residential buildings.
Representatives of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Kyiv briefed the distinguished guest on the work of rescue workers following Russian shelling. They explained how emergency rescue operations are conducted and the dangers that State Emergency Service personnel face on a daily basis.

Rescuers noted that after each attack, they have to work under the constant threat of follow-up strikes. Despite this, they continue to search for people under the rubble, clear away the debris, and assist the victims. During the visit, the archbishop was given a detailed account of the protocol following missile attacks, the work of emergency rescue units, and the coordination of services at the sites of tragedies. “We express our sincere gratitude to the Holy See for the humanitarian aid provided to the Ukrainian people, as well as for its solidarity and support during this difficult time for our country,” the State Emergency Service noted.

The agency emphasized that such visits are of great importance. They help the international community see firsthand the consequences of Russian aggression and understand the conditions under which Ukrainian rescuers work every day. “Such visits are an important demonstration of international attention to the consequences of Russian aggression and support for Ukraine, its citizens, and its rescue workers, who stand guard every day to protect people’s lives,” the State Emergency Service emphasized.

Since the start of the full-scale war, the Holy See has repeatedly expressed its support for humanitarian initiatives for Ukraine and provided assistance to those affected by Russian aggression. Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher’s visit served as yet another confirmation of the Vatican’s concern for the consequences of the war and its support for the Ukrainian people. This was reported by .
