The UN Security Council will convene on April 20 in response to Russia's attacks on civilians in Ukraine
Ukraine has called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on Monday, April 20, to discuss the latest wave of state-sponsored terror by the Russian Federation.
Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga emphasized the need for a strong international response to the targeted killings of civilians.
According to the Foreign Minister, the aggressor’s latest massive attack claimed the lives of at least 15 people, including a child. The tragedies occurred in Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnipro, and the total number of wounded across the country has already exceeded 100.
Andriy Sibiga emphasized that strikes on residential buildings where sleeping families were present, as well as on critical infrastructure, are part of the Kremlin’s premeditated military strategy.
The minister noted that while Ukraine was proposing to extend the Easter ceasefire, the Russian leadership was already approving schedules for new killings.
At the meeting on April 20, Kyiv plans to once again raise the issue of the legitimacy of Russia’s membership in the UN Security Council. Andriy Sybiha reminded that the aggressor state continues to illegally occupy a permanent seat on this body.
“Russian brutality demands an immediate and decisive international response. We will raise the issue of the need for a strong reaction from the UN Security Council to state-sponsored terror by Russia,” the foreign minister stated.
