“Flamingo” missiles strike Oreshnik launch site in Russia

In January, Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out a series of strikes on the Kapustin Yar testing range in Russia, from where Russian forces had been launching Oreshnik missiles at Ukrainian positions. This was reported in a statement by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Telegram.

"During January 2026, the Ukrainian Defense Forces conducted a series of successful strikes on the hangar-type building complex at the Kapustin Yar testing range in Astrakhan region, Russia, where pre-launch preparations for medium-range intercontinental ballistic missiles take place," the statement reads.

According to the military, the strikes were carried out using long-range Ukrainian-made strike systems, including the FP-5 Flamingo.

The General Staff noted that several buildings at the range were damaged to varying degrees, one hangar was significantly damaged, and some personnel were evacuated from the site.

Military expert Luhovsky stated that Russia currently has only 3–4 Oreshnik missiles and plans to enter serial production.

Previously, Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian president and deputy head of the Security Council of Russia, released a video showing an Oreshnik ballistic missile, threatening European countries planning to deploy troops in Ukraine after a peace agreement is reached.

Separately, Russian forces launched night drone strikes on Cherkasy region and Novoukrainka district in Kirovohrad region, damaging residential homes and farm buildings due to falling debris.
