Russia launched 272 drones at Ukraine; air defense forces shot down 249 of them

Ukraine’s air defense forces have shot down 249 of the 272 drones that Russian troops have launched into the country since the evening of June 5.

According to the military, starting at 6:00 p.m. on June 5, the occupiers carried out a massive air attack, deploying 272 drones of various types.

Among them were:

  • Shahed strike UAVs, including jet-powered variants;
  • “Gerbera” drones;
  • “Italmas” drones;
  • “Banderole” loitering munitions;
  • “Parody”-type decoy drones.

The launches were carried out from the regions of Orel, Kursk, Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Millerovo, as well as from Gvardeyskoye in the temporarily occupied Crimea.

The following were involved in repelling the attack:

  • air forces;
  • anti-aircraft missile forces;
  • electronic warfare (EW) units;
  • unmanned aerial vehicle forces;
  • mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

As of 8:00 a.m. on June 6, Ukrainian air defense had shot down or neutralized 249 enemy drones using EW systems.

The targets were destroyed over the northern, eastern, and southern regions of Ukraine.

Despite the effective work of the air defense forces, it was not possible to completely avoid the consequences of the attack.

Nineteen strike drones were recorded hitting 11 locations.

In addition, debris from the downed drones fell at 13 different locations, causing damage.

The Air Force emphasized that the attack was still ongoing as of the morning of June 6, as several enemy drones remained in Ukrainian airspace.

Ukrainian defense forces continue to track and destroy aerial targets, ensuring the protection of the civilian population and critical infrastructure.

Since the evening, Russian troops have carried out nearly 30 attacks on the Dnipropetrovsk region, using drones and artillery. As a result of the shelling, one person was killed and three others were wounded.

In Zaporizhzhia, authorities reported a new type of attack in which a Russian “Shahed” drone allegedly delivers FPV drones directly to the city center and drops them on civilian targets. Officials report a change in the enemy’s tactics and an increased threat to the city.

Russia attacked Kherson with drones and artillery, resulting in one death and several injuries.

The Russian attack damaged energy and oil and gas infrastructure; there are injuries.

Poland has scrambled fighter jets in response to Russia’s large-scale air attack on Ukraine.

The press service of the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command officially announced the emergency response and activation of defense protocols on social media platform X. 

Russia attacked Kharkiv and the surrounding region overnight; there are casualties.
