Russia must be held accountable for the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, says Ukraine's Foreign Ministry

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that Russia must be held accountable for the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, which caused a massive environmental and humanitarian disaster in Ukraine. The exact number of victims remains unknown due to the occupation of parts of the territory.

The ministry emphasized that three years ago, Russia blew up the dam of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, leading to one of the largest man-made disasters in Europe in recent decades.

“Three years ago, Russia destroyed the dam of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, causing one of the largest man-made environmental disasters in Europe in recent decades. Vast territories were flooded, the Kakhovka Reservoir was destroyed, and hundreds of thousands of people were left without access to drinking water. This crime also jeopardized the stable operation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant—the largest nuclear power plant in Europe,” the Foreign Ministry’s statement reads.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that due to the occupation of part of the Kherson region, the full extent of human casualties remains impossible to determine. At the same time, at least tens of thousands of people have been affected.

“Russia must be held accountable for the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant and for all crimes committed during the war against Ukraine,” the ministry stressed.

This is stated in a statement by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, published on social media platform X on the anniversary of the tragedy.

Ukrainian law enforcement officials have charged Russian General Oleg Makarevich. He ordered the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant a year ago.

Earlier, we reported that the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) exposed officials from the Migration Service who were profiting off foreigners by offering them their “services.” The perpetrators were found to have assets worth nearly 150 million.

We also remind you that the Security Service of Ukraine detained a Russian informant who was spying on the locations of Ukrainian troops defending Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region.
