Russia to sell gas to China at a huge discount for three years – Bloomberg

The price of Russian natural gas for China will remain significantly lower than that of supplies to Europe and Turkey over the next few years. It is projected that the cost of gas for Beijing will be 27–38% lower than European prices, and in some cases the difference could be nearly double. 

This is reported by Bloomberg.

Experts attribute these conditions to Russia’s forced reorientation of exports toward Asia following the loss of most of the highly profitable European market. Sanctions and the severing of ties with Western partners have forced Russia to seek new outlets for its raw materials, which has increased its dependence on Chinese consumers.

Despite the increase in export volumes to China, they are unable to fully offset the financial and physical losses resulting from reduced supplies to Europe. The overall profitability of Russia’s energy exports continues to decline due to the need to offer significant discounts to key buyers in Asia.

Russian oil companies are forced to significantly reduce oil production amid successful drone attacks on key export infrastructure and the suspension of supplies via the Druzhba pipeline.
