Russia has launched more than 100 drones at Ukraine; dozens more are still in the air

Throughout the day on September 28, from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Russia continued to launch massive attacks on Ukraine using “Shahed”-type strike UAVs, most of which are jet-powered.

As of 4:30 p.m., more than 100 drones of various types were detected in the airspace, a significant portion of which were heading toward Kyiv. So far, air defense forces have managed to shoot down more than 40 jet-powered UAVs, but dozens of drones remain in the air.

In several regions of the country, strikes on infrastructure, civilian facilities, and residential buildings have been reported. In particular, in Kyiv, enemy jet-powered drones struck the building of the National Academy of Sciences and the “Dobrobut” Medical Center. Defense forces continue to repel the air attack.

On September 28, a fire broke out in the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in central Kyiv following a Russian strike. Rescue workers are on the scene extinguishing the fire and checking the building—there may still be people inside.

During the strike on the building of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences in Kyiv on September 28, there were fatalities among scientists and employees of the institution, and a number of people remain unaccounted for.

Former Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council and academician Volodymyr Horbulin sustained minor injuries during the Russian strike on the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. His assistant was killed in the attack.
