Russia Is Once Again Spreading a False Narrative About U.S. Biological Laboratories in Ukraine – Center for Public Diplomacy

The Kremlin has once again stepped up its disinformation campaign regarding the alleged operation of “U.S. biological laboratories” on Ukrainian territory. This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

The latest surge in conspiracy theories was triggered by a statement from Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, who claimed that Washington and Kyiv had allegedly refused to respond to allegations regarding the “development of biological weapons”. The Center emphasizes that the international community’s lack of response stems from the complete groundlessness and absurdity of these accusations, for which Moscow has failed to provide any evidence since 2014.

Analysts stress that the recycling of old disinformation tropes is evidence of a crisis in Russian propaganda, which is forced to re-circulate long-discredited fakes due to a lack of new arguments to justify the war.
