On May 14, Russia fired missiles manufactured in 2026 at Kyiv

On May 14, Russia fired missiles manufactured in 2026 at Kyiv

All of the X-101 missiles that Russia used to attack the Kyiv region on Wednesday night likely belong to a single batch manufactured in the second quarter of 2026. According to reports, components of Western origin may have been used in their construction.

This was confirmed during an online meeting with journalists by Vladislav Vlasyuk, the President’s Representative on Sanctions Policy, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.

According to the official, by the end of the day on May 14, it became clear that all the Kh-101 missiles launched that night in the Kyiv region came from a single batch.

“One hit a residential building on the left bank of Kyiv, where 25 people were killed; another struck a gas station in the DVRZ area; and the third hit Bila Tserkva, where it was likely a misfire. All of these are products from a single series, approximately from the second quarter of 2026,” Vlasyuk said.

Analyzing the situation from a technical standpoint, several important conclusions can be drawn. First, a trend is confirmed: the Russians are taking what is used for attacks on Ukraine straight off the assembly line. Therefore, statements about possible short-term “ceasefires” should be viewed differently: the enemy is simply using this time to stockpile weapons.

“Second, it is concerning that the latest batches of missiles contain a significant proportion of Western components. A separate issue is the date of manufacture of these components. I think we’ll see markings indicating the end of 2025, and some may have been manufactured as late as 2026. This means that all efforts aimed at blocking supplies and stopping the flow of foreign components needed by the enemy are still insufficient,” the Presidential Envoy stated.

According to him, the relevant materials were (once again) shared with international partners on Thursday. Preventing the aggressor from circumventing sanctions remains a priority in negotiations with them.

“At the same time, there are positive developments. Among the materials are reports from one of the U.S. law enforcement agencies. Over the past year, more than ten cases have been recorded in which channels supplying components worth millions of dollars to Russia were successfully identified and shut down,” Vlasyuk continued.

He also mentioned the case involving NVIDIA. A year ago, the Russian side began actively integrating artificial vision modules into drones, particularly into certain variants of the “Shahed” type. However, this technology did not become widespread.

“This is likely due to the fact that, according to our data, U.S. intelligence agencies were able to block some critical shipments during that same period. This is confirmed by the materials we’ve seen, including photos of seized shipments and logistics containers,” the official explained.

But there are also counterexamples. One such example involves an analysis of components manufactured by one of Europe’s largest microelectronics companies, STMicroelectronics (Switzerland). Ukraine is attempting to “reach out” to this manufacturer. In particular, through our embassy in Switzerland, the company was provided with approximately 50 serial numbers of components it manufactured that were discovered this year.

“Unfortunately, STM’s position is that these are ‘minor components’ that allegedly do not pose a significant problem, or that they are not manufactured in Switzerland, and therefore the impact is limited. This approach differs significantly from the reactions of other partners and is cause for concern, so work in this area is continuing separately and more intensively,” the sanctions policy official assured.

As for other manufacturers, the process, in his assessment, is more structured. A mechanism has been established for manufacturers to submit identified samples for analysis.

“In particular, components are regularly sent to partners in Ireland, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States for further technical examination,” concluded Vladislav Vlasyuk.

Russia cynically called the massive attack on Ukraine a retaliatory strike

Over 21,000 customers were left without power due to the Russian Federation’s attack in the Lviv region

As a reminder, overnight, the Air Defense Forces managed to neutralize 693 aerial targets, including 41 missiles and 652 unmanned aerial vehicles of various types.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia’s massive attack on Ukraine is not accidental. In this way, Russian leader Vladimir Putin is attempting to divert the world’s attention from international events, particularly U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to China.
