Reserve officials noted that the spread of the fire has been halted, but rescue workers continue to operate in an enhanced mode.

On May 9, the Chernobyl Radiation-Ecological Biosphere Reserve recorded the further spread of a large-scale forest fire. The situation remains most critical, particularly on the left bank of the Pripyat River.

A large-scale forest fire is ongoing in the Chernobyl zone, having already engulfed about 1,200 hectares. Rescue workers are working around the clock to stop the spread of the fire, which is being fueled by heat and strong winds.
