British Prime Ministerial Candidate Announces a Policy of Tough Stance – Reuters

Andy Burnham, the front-runner for the position of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, has spoken out in favor of strengthening the country’s defense capabilities and reducing its dependence on imported weapons. The politician explained the need to strengthen defense by citing current threats, including Russia’s war against Ukraine, the conflict in the Middle East, and cyberattacks.

Burnam emphasized the importance of rebuilding “hard power” for a new era, one that differs significantly from the time when current military equipment was developed. The politician is expected to lead the Labour Party and replace Keir Starmer as prime minister; he has already pledged to deepen defense cooperation with European allies, primarily France and Germany.

This was reported by Reuters.
