Russia attacked Ukraine with 131 drones from four directions

On the night of July 28, Russian forces launched a massive attack on Ukraine, firing 131 attack drones from four directions. Air defense forces destroyed or intercepted most of the enemy targets, but hits and damage from the attacks were recorded in a number of regions.

From 6:00 p.m. on July 27 until the morning of July 28, the enemy deployed 131 attack drones. Among them were Shahed-type drones, including jet-powered ones, as well as Gerber, Italmas, and “Parody” decoy drones.

Launches were recorded from several directions:

  • Bryansk, Kursk, and Orel within Russian territory
  • the temporarily occupied city of Donetsk
  • the temporarily occupied town of Gvardeyskoye in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea

As of 8:00 a.m., Ukrainian air defense had shot down or neutralized 107 enemy drones. These included Shahed, Gerber, Italmas, and other types of drones.

The targets were destroyed in the north, south, center, and east of the country.

Despite the air defense efforts, some drones reached their targets. Sixteen attack drones were confirmed to have struck nine locations simultaneously.

Debris from downed drones was also found at six other locations. The full extent of the damage is being assessed, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.

Over the past 24 hours, Russian troops carried out 71 strikes on 23 settlements in the Sumy region. As a result of the enemy shelling, 19 people were injured, including seven children.

In the Bilopil community in the Sumy region, three people—a woman and her two young children—were injured as a result of a Russian drone attack.

Over the past day, on July 27, the Ukrainian Armed Forces eliminated another 1,560 Russian soldiers. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released updated data on Russian military losses as of July 28, 2026.
