Russian troops intend to capture one of Ukraine’s regional capitals, and are considering Sumy or Kharkiv as possible targets.
This was stated on the “We Are Ukraine” TV channel by Vadym Karpyak, spokesperson for the 8th Airborne Assault Corps.
According to him, the occupiers’ current actions indicate that this is not about creating a so-called “buffer zone,” but rather an attempt to seize Ukrainian territories.
“Their goal is to capture a regional center. And they would very much like it to be Sumy or Kharkiv. In our area of responsibility, they are advancing toward Sumy. Previously, people often said that they were creating a buffer zone. But objectively, the events of recent months do not confirm this,” Karpyak said.
He emphasized that Russian forces are trying to advance as far as the situation on the front allows.
According to the spokesperson, the enemy’s minimum objective is to capture Sumy, but so far the occupiers have been unable to carry out this plan.
“They haven’t succeeded, but no one has said they’ve given up on it, so they continue to press forward,” Karpyak added.
