On the night of July 17, Russian forces launched another massive attack on Ukrainian territory, using missiles and attack drones. Hits were recorded in several regions as a result of the shelling.
The enemy used various types of missiles and kamikaze drones in the attack. Air defense forces worked to destroy the aerial targets, but some of them managed to reach their targets.
What Weapons Did Russia Use?
On the night of July 16–17, from 6:00 p.m. until morning, the enemy used various types of weapons. The strike was launched from the temporarily occupied Crimea and from Russian territory.
The enemy deployed:
1 X-31P anti-radar missile;
7 X-59/69 guided air-to-ground missiles;
130 Shahed-type attack drones, including jet-powered ones, as well as Gerber, Italmas, and “Parody” decoy drones.
The drones were launched from several directions—Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Millerovo, and Orla in Russia, as well as from the occupied cities of Donetsk and Gvardeyskoye in Crimea.
How many targets were shot down by air defense
As of 08:00, air defense forces had destroyed or neutralized:
5 X-59/69 guided missiles;
115 enemy drones of various types.
The shootdowns were recorded in the north, south, and east of the country.
Where strikes were recorded
Enemy weapons struck seven locations—where two missiles and eight attack drones were recorded. Debris from the downed targets fell in five additional locations.
An X-31P missile failed to reach its target.

Western analysts have pointed to signs that the Kremlin finds itself in a difficult position.
Putin ordered an investigation to identify the main culprits of the war among Ukraine’s allies.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, during which the parties discussed strengthening Ukraine’s air defense, the situation on the front lines, and continued support for Ukraine.
