Russia May Intensify Ballistic Missile Strikes on Ukraine — Bloomberg

According to three sources interviewed by the publication, Moscow is considering intensifying ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv—particularly on the capital’s city center—as well as on infrastructure targets in other Ukrainian cities.

The sources claim that the framework for negotiations has effectively collapsed, and the parties have returned to square one. At the same time, the Kremlin does not believe that the economic pressure of sanctions or Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries and logistics facilities will force Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to end the war.

Moscow is also increasingly viewing Ukrainian strikes as attacks by NATO countries. This is linked to the supply of Western weapons and intelligence to Ukraine.

What’s Happening with the Negotiations

U.S. efforts to end the war have not yet yielded a breakthrough. According to Bloomberg, the negotiation process has effectively stalled, particularly as the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has focused on the conflict with Iran.

The Kremlin has also abandoned its expectations regarding agreements that, as Moscow had believed, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump might have reached during their meeting in Alaska.

One of the key issues remains Russia’s territorial claim. Moscow expects the U.S. to pressure Ukraine to cede the eastern part of the Donetsk region. Ukraine has consistently rejected this demand.

The Kremlin is preparing for further escalation

According to four other individuals close to the Kremlin, in the absence of diplomatic progress, Moscow sees few alternatives to further intensifying hostilities to achieve its goals.

At the same time, Russia is still awaiting possible new proposals from Witkoff and Kushner, though Bloomberg’s sources assess the chances of a quick breakthrough as very low.
